I’m starting this list with a personal favorite, a relatively cheap sump pump made for high-volume water removal: the WaterAce Wa50CPED. I’m sure you will like it.

Although this is a pedestal pump, WaterAce still invested in quality housing. A cast-iron construction that makes this pump extremely durable.

The reason why I like this pump is the powerful motor, actually, this is the most powerful pedestal pump that WaterAce has, 1/2 HP with a max flow rate of 5000 GPH at 0 feet.

Because this is a pump for high-volume water removal, WaterAce added a built-in motor overload protection, a highly valuable feature for some homeowners.

And the thing that lazy homeowners will appreciate the most is how easy the pump is to install, the instructions included in the box will be the only help you will need.

Pros

The biggest advantage that the 50CPED has over other pumps is the fair trade, for a really good price, you get what most homeowners want in a pedestal sump pump.

And another thing that also jumps out is how quiet this pump is, it’s expected for pedestal pumps to make unpleasant noise, however, this one does not have that problem.

Cons

Of course, manufacturers will let us down somehow, and WaterAce did that in the way I like the least. I’m talking about the 2-year warranty which really makes me sad.

What I like most about this pump is how long can it last, sure, you may pay a bigger price, but you will be happy to know that you won’t have to buy another pump in 10 years.

Another good thing about the M84 is that it needs almost no maintenance, Zoeller made this pump specifically for users that don’t like pumps that need regular cleaning.

Cons

Yet again, this pump disappoints with the warranty, I’m sure that most of you will want more than a 1-year warranty for the price you will pay.

Of course, most of you will want a pump like this for smaller basins, however, it isn’t available, so I’m putting the targeted audience as a bad thing.

3. Zoeller 585-0005 Aquanot II Pedestal Battery Backup

So, a pedestal pump doesn’t have to mean a primary pump, some homeowners want a pedestal pump as a backup, and that’s why I am adding this one to the list.

Now, the 585 is really an expensive model (Check the price here), but don’t let that discourage you, this battery backup can pump more than half of the average primary pumps can.

Like many Zoeller products, this one also is made from cast iron and stainless steel, materials that make a durable sump pump.

As I said, this backup is really powerful, a 12- Volt DC motor that can pump as much as 2160 GPH at 10 feet. It’s hard to find a more powerful backup than this one.

Zoeller added some tech features to this one, an audible alarm to inform you when the backup is on, and a microprocessor for reliable operation.

Pros

I must say that the heavy-duty motor is what caught my eye, the motor is enough of an advantage over other pumps, the durable material is just the cherry on top.

Compliments to Zoeller for making a switch that has almost no faults, users were very satisfied with how reliable this battery backup is.

Cons

Surprise, Surprise, a 1-year warranty yet again. The warranty can be extended with the Aquanot battery purchase, but that’s just additional costs.

Another bad thing that we can contribute to this pump is that it can’t handle solids. Sure, handling solids is not a necessity, but you would expect that from an expensive pump.

That’s all about the battery backup, I just wanted you to have as many options as possible, it’s time to continue.

4. Superior Pump 92301 Pedestal Sump Pump

Now, this pump is a budget option, however, that does not mean that it’s a bad pump. Trust me, I would not add a pump to this list just because of its price.

The 92301 is the best Superior Pump pedestal model, made for smaller basins and ideal for home-usage.

It has cast iron housing material, nothing special, but good enough for a pedestal sump pump. It sure is better than the thermoplastic models.

The motor is not that powerful, but it’s oil-free, which means minimal maintenance is needed. It has a maximum flow rate of 2280 GPH, which is not bad at all.

You would be happy to hear that the switch is fully adjustable and it has a Metal Switch Arm which provides durability and reliability.

Pros

We must commend Superior Pump for perfectly executing a cheap reliable pedestal sump pump, in some pumps you pay more but get less.

Of course, we must pay respects to the 3-year warranty. Opposed to the models above, a 3-year warranty sounds like a luxury.

Cons

Now, compared to other pedestal models, this one is really noisy. I mean, that is expected from pedestal pumps, but the noise can be quite annoying.

Again, this pump has a targeted audience, homeowners with bigger basins will be unhappy to hear that they don’t have a cheap model like this one available.

5. FloTec FPPM3600D Pedestal Pump

This is a cheaper budget option than the one above and slightly worse. However, I think the Flotec FPPM3600D still earns its place on this list.

As I said, many budget options are made for smaller basins, so is this one. Sure, you can use it for bigger basins but it may not be that efficient.

You may not like that the housing is made out of thermoplastic, but you can find the same pump with cast iron and stainless-steel housing, only for a higher price.

The reason why this pump may not be effective in bigger basins is because of its maximum flow rate which is 2460 GPH at 10 feet, however, this is quite powerful for small basins.

Surprisingly, this model can handle solids, however, that may not good for the plastic impeller. You will be fine if you get the cast iron model.

Pros

I must say that the motor is the reason why I’m recommending this sump pump, it has a surprisingly durable motor for a cheap sump pump.

You will be happy to hear that this pump is energy-efficient, it only draws 3.5 amps. This is a big advantage over other budget pedestal sump pumps.

Cons

Do I need to list the 1-year warranty as a bad thing anymore? It looks like this is a regular thing with pedestal sump pumps.

I do not like that the impeller is made out of plastic, it looks like users didn’t have a problem with it, but it’s not unreasonable to ask for something more.

Now, this model is designed for smaller basins that still need a reliable, powerful pedestal sump pump. Also, the Simer 5023SS is one of two Simer pedestal models, so stores may not have them in stock.

As I said, specifically designed for tough basin conditions, it has a stainless-steel and rugged cast iron construction, making this model extremely durable.

You will find that the motor is quite powerful for smaller basins, 1/3 HP with a maximum flow rate of 2460 GPH at 10 feet. In addition, the motor is energy efficient, only drawing 3.5 amps.

A tough sump pump would be able to handle solids, Simer knew that, so this one can handle solids as big as 1-1/4 inches in diameter.

All in all, the 5023SS it’s nothing special, but it does what it’s designed to do, you can’t ask for more in my opinion.

Pros

What I like the most is that the pump has protection against corrosion, I’m talking about the stainless-steel column, pedestal pumps are durable enough without any added protection, this just adds to the quality.

I will also give points for the fair-trade part, this model has a really good price, you would expect something more expensive for a durable sump pump.

Cons

I was really surprised when I found out that users were having problems with the vertical switch, apparently, the switch can get stuck sometimes. However, you would expect that in tough basins.

Another thing that we may count as something we don’t like is that the model needs regular maintenance, sure, that is expected in sump pumps, but the manufacturers did not do anything to help with that.

This model is not that popular, but I found the ProFlo PF92333 to be way better than some of the models that homeowners usually buy. I think you will like it, it’s really interesting.

Although this ProFlo pump has thermoplastic construction, it is surprisingly durable, but as I said pedestal sump pumps are way more durable than submersible pumps.

Now, I guarantee that you will like this motor, 1/3 HP split capacitor motor that has a continuous duty design and only draws 2.7 amps. On top of that, it can pump as much as 2280 GPH at 10 feet.

The motor is not the only thing special about this pump, it also has a thermoplastic vertical float switch that is protected with a Metal Switch Arm.

As if all that was not enough, the PF92333 can handle solids very well, the stainless-steel impeller makes that operation as smooth as possible.

Pros

Finally, what I have been waiting for, a 3-year warranty. I think the warranty speaks to how good this pump is, it shows that the manufacturer has faith in it.

And, I must compliment ProFlo on making an excellent motor, besides everything that I listed above, it has an oil-free motor which means that it needs no maintenance.

Cons

It’s really hard to find something bad with pumps like this one, but there is always something. In this case, the pump is easy to install, but the instructions don’t help at all. Beginners will have a hard time.

The pump doesn’t come with a check-in valve built-in. This may seem like nitpicking, but what can I say, I’m a perfectionist.

I’m introducing to you the perfect model for average home-usage. If your basin is neither small nor big, this is the pedestal pump for you.

This WaterAce model, the WA33CPED, is a lighter version of the first pump on this list, they are basically the same, the difference is in the motor.

It has the usual heavy-duty cast iron base construction and zinc plated column, which is an excellent option for a pedestal sump pump.

As I said, this one has a less powerful motor than the first WaterAce model, 1/3 HP with a maximum flow rate of 3480 GPH at 0 feet.

Like every WaterAce model, this one can also handle solids, but it does that way better because of the thermoplastic impeller.

Pros

Now, I want to compliment this model on being absolutely the best pump for average home-usage, fair price, and good features.

You will find that this sump pump is easy to install, and of course, the instructions help a lot, beginners will appreciate them for sure.

Cons

Of course, there must be something faulty with pumps for residential use, users found that the switch can be sometimes faulty, I, however, didn’t have this experience.

The lazy ones will want to know this, this pump needs regular maintenance. If you want this model to be efficient you may need to put some effort into it too.

Now, I want to show you, my favorite Superior Pump model, the 92551. It has all the usual features pumps have and something more.

It has what you prefer in a sump pump, stainless-steel construction, cast iron base, and a stainless-steel impeller, built to last.

The motor is quite average if you ask me, 1/2 HP with a maximum flow rate of 2700 GPH at 10 feet. However, it’s energy-efficient, only drawing 3.06 amps.

I really like the float switch though; the ball is made from stainless-steel and it has Metal Switch Arm that provides security and reliability.

As you can see, this may be the perfect pedestal sump pump for you if you don’t need more GPH for your basin.

Pros

I think you know by now how I judge sump pumps, yes, the warranty, and this one has a 5-year warranty which really makes me happy. If you ask me this is a crucial factor when deciding what to buy.

In my opinion, stainless-steel impeller is a big advantage over other pumps. I can’t tell you how many faulty impeller complaints I have heard while researching sump pumps.

Cons

You can see that the bad thing about this sump pump is the weak motor, I’m sure for some homeowners that much GPH is just fine, but some need way more.

Some users had trouble installing this pedestal pump and the fact that it doesn’t come with a check valve doesn’t help too. Be sure to buy a check valve too, it will save you a trip to the store.

I’m ending this list with a pump that I don’t really like but users and professionals say it’s a great pump: The Little Giant VS-p2800. I’ll let you be the judge.

This VS-P model is a good choice for homeowners that like energy-saving pumps that don’t need that much maintenance.

It has a thermoplastic construction which users found it to be quite durable, I said many times before, thermoplastic is just fine for pedestal models.

The motor is not that powerful, it can only pump 2040 GPH at 10 feet. However, you can’t expect more from an energy-efficient motor.

In addition, this model can also handle solids as big as 0.25 inches in diameter, the non-clogging design makes that possible.

Pros

I like the oil-free motor, it makes the pump low-maintenance. Little Giant targets modern homeowners with this pump, and it does that well.

I also like the non-clogging design, you would expect a thermoplastic impeller to not do great with solids, but this one does.

Cons

Yet again, this pump also has a 1-year warranty. I consider that a big no-no with pumps, however, some homeowners may be fine with that.

I don’t see this pump staying alive in harsh basin conditions and that may be fine, but Little Giant claims it can survive in any basin.
